NATIONAL INDOOR CLIMBING ACHIEVEMENT SCHEME

This national scheme is designed to introduce young climbers to climbing on artificial climbing walls in a series of five levels of increasing technical skill and responsibility.

  • Foundation Climber - an entry level aimed at complete novices (min 3hrs).
  • Top Rope Climber - a top roping level aimed at best practice (min 8hrs).
  • Technical Climber - focuses on technique and movement skills (min 20hrs).
  • Lead Climber - skills required to lead climb (min 30hrs).
  • Advanced Climber - improving performance (min 40hrs).

The scheme is administered by the Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC) and is supported by the National Mountaineering Councils. The scheme accredits achievements in climbing and provides a structure for development in the sport. Candidates are given a national log book and must gain logged experience to complete each level. They are open to climbers of all ages from 10 and upwards.
