Over 55’s Taster Sessions

Our Over 55’s Taster Sessions are designed to introduce you to the fun of indoor rope climbing. The instructor-led session lasts 1.5 hours, giving you plenty of time to warm up and tackle our climbs. Your instructor will adapt the session to cater to your experience and fitness, so you can do as much or as little as you like. If you love it as much as we do, you can graduate to the over 55’s climbers club where you will be taught all the skills needed to become a member of our centre.
Is climbing safe?
There is the perception that climbing is a highly dangerous sport, ideally suited to over caffeinated adrenaline junkies! As with any physical activity, there are risks but statistically speaking indoor climbing is no riskier than playing football.
Isn’t climbing for young people?
Age should certainly not be seen as a barrier, some of our best climbers are well into their 60s. We run classes for children as young as 5 and our oldest registered members are in their 80s.
Don’t you need to be really strong?
To do the hardest climbs in the centre, you will need to very fit and very strong. However, climbing is all about good technique and economy of movement and there are plenty of easy climbs for beginners and intermediates.
Is climbing good for you?
Absolutely! There are many physical and mental health benefits, but perhaps the main reason people climb is because of the lifelong friendships climbing creates. Bristol has a huge climbing community made up of people of all ages and backgrounds, brought together through their passion for climbing, and the occasional bit of cake!
Can I bring my friends?
Yes, once you have become a member you can sign in up to 2 guests, so you can bring friends or even the grandchildren!
